Patricia Kelly
Quilter/Fabric Artist, Writer
atricia Kelly began her journey into the art of traditional quilting over 20 years ago, driven by a deep appreciation for creativity, culture, and craftsmanship. What started as a personal interest soon blossomed into a lifelong passion. About a decade ago, Patricia joined the San Diego People of Color Quilt Guild, a pivotal moment that greatly expanded her understanding of quilting—not just as a textile art, but as a powerful thread woven through African and African American history.
Through the guild, she deepened her knowledge of quilting’s rich roots, tracing its origins back to the African continent and exploring how it evolved within Black communities in America. Quilting, for Patricia, became more than fabric and patterns—it became a form of storytelling, heritage preservation, and cultural expression.
Today, Patricia proudly serves as the President of the San Diego People of Color Quilt Guild, where she helps lead a vibrant community of quilters dedicated to honoring tradition, sharing skills, and celebrating the stories that each quilt holds. Her leadership and dedication continue to inspire others to explore the legacy and artistry of quilting within communities of color.
