S.O.S. Saving Our Stories: Bridging Generations Through writing & African-American storytelling

Through a series of writing workshops, anthology, and a documentary short film AAW&A will showcase amazing stories of resilience through elderly San Diegans. This project will also serve as a healing platform that will help combat Alzheimer’s, Dementia symptoms and social isolation within this often neglected group

Program Objectives

Objective 1

Participants will have increased and/or sustained mental capacities and relief of symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). Participants will feel empowered to share their writing of creative and personal history

Objective 2

Participants gain confidence in their ability to tell their stories and express themselves. This expression will also help mend neural connections resulting in increased cognitive function and decreased emotional distress.

Objective 3

Participants improve their writing skills through guided exercises and feedback. Participants from different age groups build meaningful connections and understand each other’s experiences better.
